Osaka first to bid for 2080 Olympics

In an unprecedented move, Osaka became the first to put in a bid to host the 2080 Summer Olympics. Sports commentators ridiculed making such a move so far in advance, but city officials stood by their decision.

Mayor Kabapu is quoted as saying, "Though we will not live to see the fruits of our efforts, our children and our children's children will thank us for the sacrifices we make today."

Mayor Kabapu's approval rating reportedly soared following the announcement.

It is predicted that Osaka will submit the sports of Anything Goes Martial Arts, bread-eating, and mecha combat for consideration as future Olympic events. Officials on the city council are confident that mobile suits will be in common use by 2080.

Renovations in preparation for the event will commence this week. Koshi Rikdo gave his stamp of approval for Osaka to be turned into an Olympic village.

Meanwhile, officials have made plans to rid the city of its Puchuu infestation prior to any visits by the Olympic committee.

Tremors worry scientists

The Japanese Geological Society has expressed concern over increased seismic activity in the Tokyo region. The activity has been mild so far, but scientists warn this may be a sign of an impending seismic event of significant magnitude. Current estimates predict a potential strength of 6.0 or higher on the Richter scale.

Professor Akagi of Tokyo University is skeptical of the Geological Society's claims.

"This reported activity is unlike anything we've seen before," Professor Akagi said. "It materialized suddenly and does not follow any established earthquake patterns. I suspect it is nothing more than an isolated incident that is no cause for concern."

Representatives at the Japanese Geological Society were quick to point out that Professor Akagi was ousted from the Society last year for her outlandish theories connecting biological entities and seismic events. It is recommended that citizens prepare for a potential earthquake by storing bottled water and canned food supplies.

Student saved at sea

Rescue crews were called to the Port of Tokyo today when an unidentified man was pulled from the harbor. The S.S. Minnow, a local fishing vessel, spotted the man early this morning and radioed the Japanese Coast Guard for assistance. He was found amid mysterious wreckage from an unknown craft. Authorities refused to provide further details on the nature of the wreckage or its origin. No registered vessels were reported missing in the area, leading several locals to suspect covert operations were involved.

The rescued man was revived aboard the Minnow and taken to a local hospital by ambulance. No photographs of the man were released, but eyewitnesses at the scene reported he was of average build with a cross-shaped scar on his left cheek. He was found wearing a Jindai High School uniform. Local authorities interviewed the man, but all he was reported to say was "I was only taking my morning swim. It is a healthy activity." When pressed for information, he refused to comment further. Insiders at the hospital revealed the man disappeared from the hospital when left alone to rest. Calls to Jindai High School were not returned.

Salvage crews are currently at work collecting the unidentified wreckage from the port. Officials at the scene ignored questions from the media, but a worker leaving the scene was overheard saying "It was bitten right through." Experts seen examining the salvaged material appeared puzzled.
